CHURCH YARD SALE A SUCCESS! – The church made almost $400 from this Sat, Aug 28th sale benefiting our church’s programs and ministries. Thank you to Diana Fields for planning and organizing this event and to all of you who brought your rummage items.   

 

RALLY SUNDAY IS SEPTEMBER 12TH!  On Rally Day we start our new program year with great curriculum, new classes, and a fun time!  Sunday School will start at about 10:15 (after Children’s Time), have music at 11 and be over at 11:15.  Classes are Preschool (3 & 4 years & 5’s not in Kind) in Room 3-4; Kindergarten – 2nd graders in Room 5-6; 3rd – 6th graders in Meggan’s Corner and a NEW! Youth Class (7th gr & up) in the Heritage Room.  The Zone, our Wednesday kids program will have a new time – 6:45-7:45.  It will also expand: 3 years – Kindergarten in Room 3-4 and 1st – 6th graders in Room 5-6.  Children’s Chimes, Sundays from 11:15-11:30, will also resume on the 12th!  Kids 2nd grade and up can join this fun musical group.  If you are interested in being part of the team as an “extra pair of hands” to help us comply with our Safe Sanctuaries guidelines, just respond to this e-mail or call the office.

 

“TAKE-A-LOOK” BOOK NOOK – Open in September – Sundays before/after church and Wednesday evenings.  Browse through the variety of books, movies and puzzles in the Book Nook at the back of the Worship Center.  The Women’s Ministries Team would appreciate your gently-used books and movies of all genres and your jigsaw puzzles (that have all the pieces). 

 

KID’S NIGHT OUT IS BACK! – The first KNO is Friday, October 15th from 6-9pm.  During the evening the kids, ages 0 years - 6th grade, will have a light dinner and dessert, play and make a craft.  At the end of the evening, they will watch a movie.  The cost to attend the whole evening is $5 per child.  If you would like to help with one of these special evenings, please call the office.

 

"MAGRUDER MEMORIES" PROJECT – (article from the Camp & Retreat Ministry Weekly E-News)  Gloria Mensah is looking for stories to share and preserve in a "Magruder Memories" book and would like to receive any Magruder stories by October 31st (but sooner is better) about how camp experiences have impacted & changed our lives.   Please share your stories and include photos if you have them.  These writings and photos will last forever and be shared by many if we preserve them now.  Please send your memories to:  "Mom" Gloria Mensah; 6911 Wilson Lane; Bethesda, MD 20817 or mensahford@aol.com.  Thanks!

CALENDAR - Our church is very active with a variety of groups, programs and events.  Do you feel called to begin a ministry, fellowship or support group?  Call or e-mail the office.

 

September Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings – “Take-A-Look Book Nook”.  Browse through the variety of books, movies and puzzles.  Proceeds will benefit our Women’s Ministries programs and mission projects.

 

September 6 – Office Closed in observance of Labor Day.

 

September 7 – Finance/Stewardship Team, 7pm.

 

September 7 – SPRC, 7pm.

 

September 8 (& every Wed) – Men’s Prayer Breakfast, 6:30am.  Meet at Shari’s in the Berryhill Shopping Center, Beavercreek Road, OC.

 

September 8 – Retired Men’s Breakfast, 8am at Berry Park Retirement Center, Gaffney Lane, OC.

 

September 8 – Wednesday Night Program.  Dinner (Pot Pie, Roasted Veggies, Green & Fruit Salads, Dessert) is served in the Worship Center, 6-6:30pm.  (A freewill donation will be accepted to cover costs.)  Kids from 3 years and up will enjoy a “Safari Adventure Party” as we end our summer program at the “Zone” in Room 5-6 from 6:30 – 7:30pm.  Worship Service of music, sharing and discussion in the Heritage Room from 6:30-7:30pm.  Choir Rehearsal is 6:45-7:45pm.

 

September 12 – Rally Day!  Children’s & Youth Classes, 10:15 – 11:15am.  Children’s Chimes, 11:15-11:30am.  Youth Group, 5-6:30pm.  (see article above for more information)

 

September 13 – First Day of Preschool for morning 4’s and afternoon Pre-K’s classes!

 

September 13 – Men’s Night Out, 6pm.  Meet at the church at 5:30 to carpool or meet at Stanley’s Corner (19905 McLoughlin Blvd, Gladstone) at 6pm.

 

September 13 – Ladies’ Night Out, 6:30pm.  Check the date change!  All ladies are invited to meet at Bugatti’s at 334 Warner Milne Road in OC.  Call the office if you need a ride.

 

September 14 – First Day of Preschool for morning 3’s class!

 

September 14 – Church Board, 6:45pm.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP, Tue, September 28, 7pm.  Read and discuss Stones Into Schools by Greg Mortenson.

 

WOMEN OF FAITH CONFERENCE, October 8 & 9.  Although this is not an official church event, there are many women from our church who attend this Friday and Saturday event held in Portland.  Lorene Lindas will again be the group leader.  For more information, contact Lorene (503-228-0393) or the church office.

 

KID’S NIGHT OUT!, Fri, October 15, 6-9pm.  Kids, 0 years – 6th grade, will have an evening of fun.  Fee for the evening is $5/child and includes a light supper.

 

2010 FALL WOMEN'S RETREAT, "Stepping Out in Faith", November 5 - 7!   We will again go to the Christian Renewal Center Retreat in Silverton, near Silver Creek Falls State Park.  You have even more options this year.  You can stay for the whole weekend - Friday evening through Sunday late morning.  You can attend for a short weekend - either Friday evening through Saturday afternoon or Saturday morning through Sunday morning.   Or just come for the Saturday program and luncheon.  Check the “For Women” link on our website home page – www.oregoncityumc.com – for more information.

 

ADVENT FESTIVAL, Sun, December 5, 2-4pm.  A fun afternoon for the whole family!  The Worship Center will be filled with tables holding a variety of craft projects to make and take home.

 

NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM, Sun, December 19, 5-7pm.  Our church will be transformed into the town of Bethlehem with booths and tables of food, crafts and other special activities for the whole family.  If you or your group would like to have a spot in the town, call or e-mail the office.
